About Pie Chart Analysis
Pie Chart Analysis gives Grade 6 and 7 learners practice reading and interpreting one of the most common ways of displaying data. Each worksheet shows a pie chart divided into labelled sectors with a clear key, and the student answers questions about it: the total represented, which category is most and least popular, and what fraction a given sector represents. Interpreting pie charts is a core data-handling expectation across the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and it develops the proportional reasoning that links fractions, percentages and statistics. Because a pie chart shows parts of a whole, reading it well means thinking about how each slice compares to the total, not just to the other slices, which is exactly the reasoning these questions build. The chart is drawn with distinct, clearly shaded sectors and a legend so it reads cleanly in black and white as well as colour. The five levels vary the data so the worksheet stays fresh and reusable. Each page prints cleanly on a standard A4 sheet, and every level downloads with its own answer key giving the answer to each question. A hand for grown-ups
- Before you start
- Find a calm few minutes with no rush. Let your child know it is fine to find some of it tricky — that is what practice is for.
- While they work
- Sit nearby but let them lead. If they get stuck, ask "what could you try?" rather than giving the answer — the thinking is the point.
- Afterwards
- Ask them to show you one they found easy and one they found hard. Praise the effort on the hard one, not just the right answers.
- Watch out for
- Rushing. If answers come too fast and wrong, slow the pace down together rather than pushing for more.
- Away from the screen
- Look for the same maths in everyday life — counting stairs, sharing snacks, spotting shapes on a walk.
