Sixth-grade math (ages 11 to 12) introduces ratios, percentages, and rates, extends division of fractions, develops negative numbers on the number line, and introduces simple expressions and equations. The National Curriculum in England (Year 7), the Australian Curriculum (Year 6), provincial curricula in Canada, and Common Core all introduce the formal language of algebra in grade 6.
