Divide by Decimals Depot tackles the moment division stops behaving the way students expect. Dividing by 0.5 doubles a number and dividing by 0.1 makes it ten times larger, and almost every child's first instinct is that this cannot be right, because division makes things smaller. That instinct is not carelessness and it is not even wrong — it is a perfectly sound generalisation from every division they have done since primary school, all of which involved dividing by numbers greater than one. It simply does not survive contact with decimals, and being told so rarely helps. What helps is the framing this game uses throughout: how many halves fit into eight, how many tenths fit into three. Asked that way, sixteen and thirty feel obviously right, because fitting lots of small things into something bigger clearly gives a large count. Asked as eight divided by nought point five, the same question feels obviously wrong. The mathematics is identical; only the phrasing differs, and that gap is precisely what makes this topic conceptually hard rather than merely fiddly. Every question therefore states the equivalent division alongside the symbolic form, so the two readings sit next to each other until they stop feeling like different questions. The distractor is always the wrong instinct made concrete — the number halved, or divided by ten — so a student following it is caught rather than left to wonder why they lost the mark.
