About Add One More Cookie

Add One More Cookie is a hands-on counting tray. The child taps a plus button to place cookies one at a time, counts them onto the tray, then adds one more and reads what the total has become. A running count sits under the tray and updates with every cookie, so the relationship between the action and the number is visible rather than assumed. This is the constructive half of a skill our One More Ladybird game approaches from the other direction: that game asks a child to predict what one more will make, while this one asks them to build it and then read the answer off the tray. Predicting and constructing are genuinely different abilities, and a child who can do one is not automatically able to do the other, which is why both are worth practising. Building the quantity physically also exposes the idea that counting is not a performance to be recited but a way of finding out how many, and that adding one moves you exactly one place along the count. From the fourth level a second tray appears and must be filled to the same total, which forces a fresh count rather than a remembered answer. Cookies can be taken off again with the minus button, so nothing is ever an irreversible mistake, and the trays are operable entirely by tap or keyboard with every control clearly labelled for screen readers. Totals never go above nine. The game runs in any modern browser, needs no sign-up, shows no advertising to children, and keeps progress on the device only.

A hand for grown-ups

Before you start
Have a few small objects to hand — buttons, blocks, raisins. Counting real things makes the numbers mean something.
While they work
Let them touch each thing as they count it. Pointing and counting together is how the one-number-per-object idea sticks.
Afterwards
Count something together afterwards — the stairs on the way up, the forks at dinner. It shows counting is useful, not just a worksheet.
Watch out for
Counting too fast and skipping objects, or counting one twice. Slow, one-touch-per-object counting fixes this on its own.
Away from the screen
Count everything: steps to the door, peas on the plate, red cars on a walk. No equipment needed.

How to play

  1. A question appears on screen

A maths question is shown in large text at the centre of the play area. A timer bar begins counting down from 120 seconds.

  2. Choose the correct answer

Answer options are shown as large buttons. Tap or click the correct option. Any input method works — touch, mouse or keyboard.

  3. Build your streak

Each consecutive correct answer increases your streak. A longer streak lights up the flame icon and adds a bonus multiplier to the XP you earn for the level.

  4. Finish the level

Each level has 4 questions. Complete them to earn the full level reward (+10 XP, plus up to +10 XP for a perfect run). Progress is saved locally and shown on the Parent Dashboard.
