About Direct Proportion Grid

Direct Proportion Grid puts students at the controls of an engineering systems network, where each row of the grid is a proportional relationship with a value missing. Learners keep the ratio constant to find the gap, building the multiplicative reasoning behind direct proportion through clean, multi-step grid puzzles.

A hand for grown-ups

Before you start
Something you can cut or fold helps enormously — paper, fruit, a sandwich. A half you can see beats a half you are told about.
While they work
Keep coming back to "equal parts". A shape split into unequal bits is the classic fractions trap.
Afterwards
Fold a piece of paper into halves, then quarters, together. Watching the pieces double is a lightbulb moment for many children.
Watch out for
Thinking a bigger bottom number means a bigger fraction (that 1/8 > 1/4). Cutting a real thing into 8 vs 4 pieces settles it fast.
Away from the screen
Cut food into equal parts at mealtimes. Fold paper. Talk about "half" and "quarter" of everyday things.

How to play

  1. A question appears on screen

A maths question is shown in large text at the centre of the play area. A timer bar begins counting down from 90 seconds.

  2. Choose the correct answer

Answer options are shown as large buttons. Tap and drag, or use the mouse on desktop. Any input method works — touch, mouse or keyboard.

  3. Build your streak

Each consecutive correct answer increases your streak. A longer streak lights up the flame icon and adds a bonus multiplier to the XP you earn for the level.

  4. Finish the level

Each level has 4 questions. Complete them to earn the full level reward (+10 XP, plus up to +10 XP for a perfect run). Progress is saved locally and shown on the Parent Dashboard.
