Little Learners · Ages 5 to 7
All Little Learners gamesTimed recall of the number bonds to 20, against a friendly clock. For ages 5 to 7.
Every activity is one step. Here is where this one fits.
Number Bond Snap Speed is about recall rather than working out. The bonds to 20 are a small, fixed set of facts, and the difference between a child who can produce them instantly and one who has to count up each time is enormous — not because speed matters for its own sake, but because every mental strategy built on top of them assumes they are already there. Bridging through ten, subtracting from twenty, column methods that regroup and most mental addition well into the junior grades all quietly depend on these pairs being available without thought. A child still calculating them is spending their attention on the foundation instead of on the thing being taught. This game therefore does something our Addition Bond Flip game deliberately does not: it puts a clock on it. That memory game is about finding pairs and thinking; this one is about producing a bond before the bar runs down, and the two complement each other rather than overlapping. The timer is generous and eases further at the lower levels, wrong answers cost nothing and move straight on, and any level can be replayed as often as a child likes — the aim is confident recall, not pressure. The remaining time is announced to screen readers on demand and spoken aloud at the final few seconds rather than every second, which would make the game unusable. Free, no sign-up, no advertising to children, progress kept on the device.
Chosen by the skills this activity practises.
An equation with a missing answer — for example "4 + 1 = ?" — is shown in large text. A timer bar starts counting down from 45 seconds.
Four answer options are shown as large buttons. Tap an answer, or press keys 1–4 on the keyboard.
Each consecutive correct answer increases your streak counter. A streak of 5 or more turns the flame icon orange and awards a streak bonus to your XP for that level.
Each level has 8 questions. Complete them correctly to earn the full level XP (+10 XP, plus up to +10 XP perfect bonus). Your progress is saved automatically between sessions.
Mapped to national curriculum frameworks so teachers and parents can match practice to school standards.
Everything you need to know before your child starts playing.
