All Smart Starters gamesStep only on tiles that are multiples of the target number. For ages 8 to 10.
Every activity is one step. Here is where this one fits.
Multiples Maze Runner puts a number on the floor and asks whether it belongs to a given times table. Stepping only on multiples of 6 means recognising 42 as one of them and 44 as not, quickly, without chanting up from six every time. That recognition is the useful end of times-table knowledge: a child who can only recite forwards has to run the whole table to check a number, while one who recognises multiples can answer immediately, and the difference shows up in every question about common multiples, lowest common denominators and simplifying fractions later on. This is the partner game to our Factor Pair Fishing, and the pairing is the point. Factors and multiples describe one relationship from two ends — 4 is a factor of 24, and 24 is a multiple of 4 — and children mix the two words up constantly, largely because the words arrive in separate lessons and are never put side by side. Playing both, with the same number ranges, is how the two settle into place. The wrong tiles are deliberately one or two either side of a true multiple, because a child who is skip counting and lands just short has made a different and much more informative mistake than one who has picked at random. Every distractor is checked before it is used, so a tile that is wrong is never accidentally a multiple as well. Tiles drift slowly and stop entirely for anyone using reduced motion. Free, no sign-up, no advertising to children.
Chosen by the skills this activity practises.
A maths question is shown in large text at the centre of the play area. A timer bar begins counting down from 75 seconds.
Answer options are shown as large buttons. Tap or click the correct option. Any input method works — touch, mouse or keyboard.
Each consecutive correct answer increases your streak. A longer streak lights up the flame icon and adds a bonus multiplier to the XP you earn for the level.
Each level has 6 questions. Complete them to earn the full level reward (+10 XP, plus up to +10 XP for a perfect run). Progress is saved locally and shown on the Parent Dashboard.
Mapped to national curriculum frameworks so teachers and parents can match practice to school standards.
Everything you need to know before your child starts playing.
