About HCF and LCM True/False
HCF and LCM True/False sharpens Grade 6 and 7 reasoning about two key ideas in number: the highest common factor and the lowest common multiple of a pair of numbers. Each question makes a claim, such as the lowest common multiple of four and six being twelve, and the student decides whether it is true or false. Finding the HCF and LCM is a core lower-secondary expectation across the US, UK, Canada and Australia, underpinning work with fractions, ratio and algebra, and the true-or-false format shifts the focus from mechanical calculation to checking and reasoning. To judge each statement, students must actually work out the real HCF or LCM and compare it to the claim, so the activity rehearses the calculation while also building the habit of verification. Mixing true and false statements means every claim has to be considered carefully rather than assumed correct. The five levels vary the number pairs so the worksheet stays fresh and reusable. A hand for grown-ups
- Before you start
- Think of it as groups: "4 × 3" is four groups of three. Have something you can arrange into equal groups.
- While they work
- Skip-counting (3, 6, 9, 12…) is a solid way in before facts are memorised. Let them use it — speed comes later.
- Afterwards
- Spot arrays in real life together — eggs in a box, tiles on a floor. Rows-and-columns is multiplication you can see.
- Watch out for
- Treating it as harder addition and losing track. Grouping objects physically keeps the "equal groups" idea in view.
- Away from the screen
- Lay out objects in rows and columns and count them two ways. Cooking with doubled recipes is multiplication too.
