Little Learners · Ages 5 to 7
All Little Learners gamesBuild a garden array in rows and columns and read the total. For ages 5 to 7.
Every activity is one step. Here is where this one fits.
Array Builder Garden lays a garden bed out in rows of equal length and numbers the plants in order. Every plant is filled in except the last in each row, and those are what the child places. That choice is the whole design. Filling every cell in a four by five bed would be twenty taps of busywork that teaches nothing; filling only the row ends means the numbers the child places are 5, 10, 15, 20 — which is skip counting along the array, and which makes visible that every row adds exactly the same amount and that the final number is rows times columns. The array is the single most useful picture in early multiplication because it shows commutativity for free: the same bed read as rows of five or as columns of four contains the same plants, and a child who has looked at one has a much easier time believing that four fives and five fours are the same. Beds grow from two rows of two up to four rows of five, and both dimensions vary independently so no child settles into expecting a square. Numbers are placed from a short palette, everything is operable by tap or keyboard, every cell is announced to screen readers with its position, and a wrong placement flashes and can be replaced with nothing lost. This game feeds directly into the Grade 3 multiplication content. Free, no sign-up, no advertising to children, progress kept on the device.
Chosen by the skills this activity practises.
A maths question is shown in large text at the centre of the play area. A timer bar begins counting down from 120 seconds.
Answer options are shown as large buttons. Tap and drag, or use the mouse on desktop. Any input method works — touch, mouse or keyboard.
Each consecutive correct answer increases your streak. A longer streak lights up the flame icon and adds a bonus multiplier to the XP you earn for the level.
Each level has 4 questions. Complete them to earn the full level reward (+10 XP, plus up to +10 XP for a perfect run). Progress is saved locally and shown on the Parent Dashboard.
