Money practice covers recognising coins and notes, counting amounts by their value, adding prices and working out change. Counting in twos, fives and tens makes totalling coins much quicker.
Confident counting, including counting in steps, helps when totalling coins.
One error to watch for: counting the number of coins instead of their value. For example, thinking three 1p coins are worth more than one 10p coin.
Money maths is arithmetic with a context children already care about: recognising coins and notes, totalling a purchase, working out change, and later handling budgets and percentages of a price.
It is also where decimals stop being abstract. £4.75 and $4.75 are two-place decimals that a child can hold in their hand, and the connection between "four pounds seventy-five" and 4.75 is often the moment decimal place value clicks. That makes money useful for far more than shopping practice.

Real coins beat pictures of coins, and a real shop beats both. Handing over money and counting the change gives immediate, meaningful feedback in a way a worksheet cannot.
Be aware this topic is currency-specific in a way most maths is not. If the activities use a different currency from the one your child handles, the arithmetic still transfers, but it is worth doing some practice with the coins in your own pocket alongside it.
